BLE Market Report KW22 / 18

Oversupply of strawberries causes prices to drop

The summery weather inspired strong sales of fruit from German fields. Sales soared. At the same time, however, the availability also rose, and much faster that sales could take up.

There was an oversupply, which sometimes caused considerable overflow. Traders were inevitably forced to adjust their prices, downwards. Prices for top goods alone were able to maintain their current levels or even tended to rise. Stocks of questionable quality had to be sold cheaply. So price ranges of between €0.70 to €1.40 per bowl of 500 gram were not unusual. The outliers were batches of excellent quality, which shot up to €2.20 per 500 gram without any difficulty.
