The first batch of Turkish cherries will enter Chinese market soon

In recent years, more varieties of cherries have entered the market. The imported ones are: Summer American cherries, Canadian cherries, Winter Chilean cherries, New Zealand cherries, Australian cherries. In China, there is also a large-scale cultivation of cherries in the following places: Yantai City of Shandong Province, Dalian city of Liaoning Province, Cherry Valley of Shaanxi Province, Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, Ganzi county and Chongqing city. Cherries are no longer a kind of "luxury" fruit, but a new choice for ordinary people in their daily life.

Turkey is the birthplace of sweet cherries. With nice soil and climate, the whole country is suitable for the planting of cherries. As the statistics of Turkish agricultural department shows, the production volume of cherries is about 450 thousand ton per year. Turkey has the highest production volume of cherries in the world. In turkey, winter is not cold and spring is not long. And the period when cherries stay in the market is about 2 months.

In recent years, China and Turkey have signed a Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Exporting Cherries from Turkey to China. In order to move ahead on the implementation issues, both parties have actively set up a cooperation. On July 3rd, 2017, China's General Administration of Quality Supervision updated the list of allowable imported fruits, to which Turkish cherries have been added.

Although Turkey is the biggest country for the production of cherries, the export volume is still less than that of Chile and America. Every year, Chile only has a little more than 100 thousand tons of cherries, 80 thousand tons of which are consumed by the Chinese. Considering the relatively low labour costs in Chile, the price of Chilean cherries, compared to those of America and Canada, is very competitive. After being allowed to enter the Chinese market, the first batch of Turkish cherries will appear in China very soon.
