Online grocery service expands West Coast presence

GrubMarket acquires So Cal Farm Network

Online grocery service GrubMarket has acquired So Cal Farm Network, a purchaser and provider of farmer-identified seasonal produce from Vernon, California.

Fueled by GrubMarket’s $20 million Series B round of funding in 2016, the deal marks the company’s effort to accelerate its produce supply-chain presence across the West Coast while expanding its offerings to retailers, foodservice providers and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

San Francisco-based GrubMarket offers a variety of organic and locally-sourced produce and grocery items up to 50% off prices of conventional grocers, according to the company website. Armed with a mission to “make fresh and healthy food accessible to everyone,” the farm-to-table e-grocer currently services California and metropolitan areas of Nevada.

"I am incredibly excited about this new relationship with GrubMarket, as they have an experienced team and infrastructure in place that will allow us to further scale So Cal Farm Network,” So Cal Farm Network Founder Martin Anenberg said in a statement.

Founded in 2003, So Cal Farm Network aims to develop a local produce supply chain that mirrors the efficiencies of mainstream agricultural distribution. It currently provides locally-grown produce to retailers including Whole Foods Market, Bristol Farms Market, Erewhon Market and Co-Opportunity Natural Foods.
