Sicilian organic table grape season has started

"The organic table grape season in the Pgi Mazzarrone territory has started. The fruit is in demand all over the world and quality is exceptional, so much so that there's no competition," explains Salvatore Consoli, sole administrator for SiFaBio.

Last year, SiFaBio Srl produced around 2000 tons of Pgi table grapes from Mazzarrone on 80 hectares. The varieties produced are Victoria, Black Magic and seedless types (white and black). Early varieties are available between mid-May and late August, while Italia and Red Globe are available between August and late November.

What's new in 2018
Trends in a global market that's increasingly demanding require adapting to evolution. In addition to strengthening its organic productions SiFaBio has started the protocol to obtain the certification for biodynamic cultivation.

What is more, a state-of-the-art packaging line that respects the cold chain has also been implemented. "Grapes arrives at the warehouse at room temperature and are immediately refrigerated at 14°C. After they are packaged, they're placed in another room at 16-18°C. Skilled personnel then proceed with sorting and packaging operations. Grapes are cooled once again before transport, which is usually carried out at a controlled temperature of 6-8°C."

Markets and value
SiFaBio works mainly in European markets such as Switzerland, France and Germany, but the produce is also shipped overseas. These countries appreciate our grapes a lot thanks to their unique organoleptic qualities.

"Standards are monitored by strict internal protocols that enable the tracing of each single step. Our reliability is essential for our international commercial partners and is what really makes the difference."
