Price remains low

Market conditions for Shandong cucumbers better than last year

The purchase price of cucumbers from Yi'nan in Shandong showed a downward trend in the last week of May. Analysts say that there several reasons for the depressed price of cucumbers: first, there has been a lot of overcast and rainy weather recently. This has influenced the development and product quality of cucumbers. It has been difficult to make profitable sales. Second, the overall domestic production volume of vegetables increased as summer began. The competition between Yi'nan cucumbers and other vegetables increased, so the price went down. Third, depressed market conditions outside south China have made it more difficult to transfer the surplus from south China to other markets.

Although the price of cucumbers continues to fall, the market conditions are still better than last year. The main reason for this development is that the production season began one month early and the supply season was extended. In this way, farmers were able to avoid vicious market competition. The price will remain low during the summer, but not as low as last year.
