The Thai government has formalized the decision to authorize - after inspections by a technical team - the export of tangerines and oranges from Entre Rios to Thailand. This was announced at a hearing, which was attended by the governors of Santa Fe and of Cordoba, Miguel Lifschitz and Juan Schiaretti, and the Argentine ambassador to Thailand, Alicia Sonschein. Thailand has almost 70 million inhabitants who represent 20 percent of the Southeast Asian trade.
From the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, in Bangkok, Bordet described this decision of the Asian country as great news for the province adding that "opening the doors to exports in Thailand strengthens and our export policy."
Bordet also said that this opening was added to that of Brazil and that they were "very close to opening the United States market, which is our great aspiration, and something we've been working on for a long time."
The representative of the Chamber of Exporters of Citrus of Northeast Argentina (Cecnea), Mariano Caprarulo, who participated in the meeting with the Thai official, expressed his satisfaction with this decision.
"The study of Argentine cherries is over and now we start with mandarins and oranges," he said. "The inspectors of Thailand should enable our packaging, so we should have a new open market in the coming months," he added.
