Many production areas suffered

China: Unexpected hailstorm in Penglai Shandong

Many villages in Penglai suffered from unexpected hail at around 16:00 on May 28th, 2018. Workers were just packaging apples in paper bags when the storm hit. Hailstones the size of chicken eggs smashed the apples to pulp. Large cherries were still on the trees when this disaster arrived.

Unexpected hailstorm in Penglai Shandong

A strong convection current swept across major apple production areas in April. Shaanxi and Gansu in particular suffered from these weather conditions. This natural disaster has already significantly reduced the national apple production volume, but this unexpected hailstorm has made the situation even worse.
