Ecuador: Mira wants to sell its avocados in Spain

Producers of avocados in Mira are searching for niche buyers for their product in Spain. Producers from Mira say that the amount of hectares devoted to this product has grown because it has managed to position itself in the international market.

The Hass variety produced in this region is recognized in the markets of Europe and North America, stated producer Carlos Ruiz.

Walter Villegas, the mayor of Mira who has been supporting the production and commercialization of this fruit from the municipality, travelled to Spain to maintain contacts with world trade representatives and authorities of that country.

The main goal of the trip was to manage contacts to promote the trade of the avocado's industrialized products. The representative managed to arrange a visit for the president of the world marketing of organic products in Mira at the end of June.

During this visit, they expect to sign a pre-sale agreement for Mira's avocado oil in Europe.

In addition, the representative of the Municipality of Cadiz expressed interest in the guacamole from Mira, which could be marketed through a European company.

Villegas said that he had a meeting with Jose Miguel Enamorado, the mayor of Lora del Río, in Seville, where he signed a twinning agreement between the two towns for future cooperative approaches.
