Camposol announced their first quarter figures for the book year. Their turnover came to $82,2 million. A year ago, this was $58,2 million. This equates to an increase of 41,3%. This growth was primarily thanks to the high volume, and the higher prices, of blueberries. This Peruvian company brought 5 362 tonnes of blueberries to market. This is a substantial increase of 61,5% in relation to the previous year's 3 321 tonnes. On average, these berries brought in $7,63 per kg. This is almost EUR2 more than in the first quarter of 2017. Then, the average price was EUR5,90 per kg. This amounts to an increase of 29,4%. The increased blueberry volumes are mainly due to the increased number of hectares that entered into production as compared to the first quarter of 2017.
The volume in the seafood category rose to 2 929 tonnes. In 2017 it was 2 695 tonnes. Prices remained stable, which resulted in higher revenues. Total gross profit increased from $12,2 million to $22,4 million. The EBITDA came to $19 million while it was $9,8 million in 2017.
Camposol is optimistic about long-term market developments. The consumption of exotic fruit and vegetables remains favourable. The use of avocados, blueberries, and mandarins in the US is still following a stable growth trajectory. In other markets, consumption of these products is also following a positive growth pattern. These are in markets other than Europe and China.
