Wanbang Market: Star fruit has small quantities and high prices

Last week, the price of carambola, or star fruit, on the Wanbang market rose. The main reasons for the increase, compared to that of last week, are: firstly, there are fewer cultivation bases. China's carambola mainly comes from Hainan, Fujian and Shandong. Now, the carambola mainly comes from Guangdong. The market season of those from Hainan and Fujian has ended and the volumes are relatively low. Secondly, as the temperature rises carambola has gained in popularity because people use it to quench their thirst. Thirdly, storage and transportation. As the weather turns warmer, the transportation costs also rise.

The main reason behind the increases is that the cultivation land of carambola decreased while the production volume did not. Thus, the demand exceeded the supply and the price eventually rose.
