The agricultural production of Oaxaca has allowed it to enter the national agricultural production ranking with 22 fruits and vegetables, such as papaya, pineapple, and lemon.
According to the state government, Oaxaca produces at least 29 crops in more than 59 thousand hectares. Each year 1,384,000 hectares of land are destined for agriculture, which places Oaxaca among the entities with the greatest agricultural contribution to the national volume, they stated.
The Ministry of Economy (SE) undertakes various actions to detonate Oaxaca's countryside, such as the Agroindustrial Expo Fair in San Pablo Huixtepec - which started on May 19 - to strengthen and promote the marketing of farm products.
According to estimates, the Rural Development Districts of Tuxtepec and Costa contribute 58 percent of the value of the entity's total production, with a harvest of 18.4 million tons of fruits and vegetables per year.
La Cañada is one of Oaxaca's regions with more activity in the agricultural sector, as it produces lemon, mango, chicozapote, passion fruit, pear, apple, and plum.
Meanwhile, Papaloapan produces banana, pineapple, orange, watermelon, melon, and grapefruit, and the Coast produces lemon, mango, tamarind, banana, coconut, orange, and papaya.
The Isthmus grows lemon, mango, tamarind, coconut, pineapple, orange, watermelon and melon, and the Sierra Sur produces mango, avocado, banana, peach, orange, and papaya.
Together, these areas account for more than 90 percent of Oaxaca's fruit activity, said the state government.
Sierra Norte, the Central Valleys, and the Mixteca are also suitable areas for growing avocado, nopal, apple, peach, walnut and red pomegranate, however, only these products are only being grown in backyards or small semi-commercial plots, they stated.
The agricultural food and agroindustrial products for export include mezcal, coffee, fruit juice, lemon concentrates and fresh fruits, such as mango, they added.
