Edeka Minden-Hannover looks back on a good year

For EDEKA Minden-Hannover, 2017 was another successful fiscal year. The cooperative generated external sales of 8.72 billion euros. Compared to the year before, this is a growth of 6.8 percent. With this, the company exceeded its own planned sales.

At the same time, the group invested 440.5 million euros in order to open new and modernise existing retail markets, in the acquisition of the Kaiser's Tengelmann chain, as well as in its production and logistics locations. "A good year, creating a solid base for additional growth and us a new, central task: to further develop the newly acquired Kaiser's branches in the capital, Berlin," said Mark Rosenkranz, CEO of EDEKA Minden-Hannover.

With an increase of 2.7 percent within the same retail space, sales of this company again developed positively. As a champion for medium and medium-sized enterprises, in the past year EDEKA Minden-Hannover put nine locations into the hands independent retailers. These all started as entrepreneurs within the ranks of the cooperative. For 2018 a transfer of another seven markets to EDEKA entrepreneurs is planned. The expansion of the organic area also turned out well, even without taking into account the acquisition of the Kaiser's Tengelmann branches.

Within EDEKA retail, 45,200 m2 of new retail space was added. " Our goal is to grow much stronger than our competitors. And although the circumstances are becoming more difficult, we have been able to achieve this for many years now. Furthermore, we have renovated and modernized the retail trade. This was of course, done as well so we could meet sustainability targets and new energy standards," says Rosenkranz. A total of 197 markets were modernized and partially enlarged.
