Xiamen imported 43.5 thousand tons of fruit in the first four months of this year. This is an increase of 46.5%. Xiamen imported 17 thousand tons of fruit last month, which was a new record in the history of import in Xiamen. It was also an increase of 53.4% in comparison with the same period last year. Xiamen has maintained a double digit import growth for 12 consecutive months.
Data shows that Taiwan and Southeast Asia are the two main origins of fruit imported in Xiamen. Xiamen imported 23 thousand tons of fruit from Taiwan, which is an increase of 24.7% in comparison with the same period last year. Xiamen also imported 20 thousand tons of fruit from Southeast Asia, which is an increase of 90.2% in comparison with the same period last year. About 11 thousand tons of that volume came from Vietnam and 5 thousand tons from Thailand.
The main varieties of import fruit in Xiamen are pineapple and dragon fruit. Together they accounted for 64.4% of the overall import volume of fruit in Xiamen in the first four months of this year.
