José Illan, l’As du Ventoux:

"France: “Small sized, high quality cherries"

A year ago, the French producer l’As du Ventoux introduced boxes of cherries. According to José Illan, the product was a great success. Their sale starts again in a few days. The cherries of As du Ventoux are destined for the French, Swiss, Luxembourg, and Scandinavian markets.

"We start the campaign with the Burlat, a very fragile variety. At the beginning of the season, the weather conditions were bad: there was a lot of rain, due to which the quality of the cherries suffered. Luckily, we have somewhat recovered. I think we’ll have a good season, quality wise anyway."

"It's hard to predict how the season will go. Regarding the start, I expect small sized, high quality cherries. Subsequently, the bigger sizes will return, and the amounts will be significantly better than last year."

As du Ventoux doesn’t only offer boxes of cherries. José: "Last year, we offered boxes of cherries and apricots. This year, we’ll launch boxes of grapes as well: this is one of our novelties for 2018. Another novelty is a tray of 40x30 apricots. The trays we had before were larger, and the stores asked us to expand our range with smaller trays. The tray is very beautiful, styled the same way as the boxes."
