Current apple stocks South Tyrol

Stocks far below the levels of last year

According to surveys by Assomela and the Chamber of Commerce, 170.410 tons of tableware were stored by cooperatives in the region as of 1 May. At this exact same time of year, it was 419,607 tons in 2017 and 418,916 tons in 2016. More than half of the lots in stock are Golden Delicious apples (95,260 tons). These are followed by Granny Smith (26,156 tons), Red Delicious (18,722 tons) and Fuji (10,720 tons).

Due to the greatly reduced harvest of 2017, the stocks of these varieties are far below the levels of last year on the same date. Of the Golden Delicious variety, just over a third of the apples are stored compared to last year. Only the Granny Smith variety has larger stocks now than last year on 1 May.

The market trend in the course of each month is interesting as well. It shows which apple varieties were the most sold in the previous month. The graph below shows that around 106,093 tons of apples were sold in the month of April, of which the Golden Delicious variety accounted for the largest share at around 41,800 tons (about 39.4%), followed by the Gala variety at around 13,100 tons (about 12.4%).
