The price of Yunnan blueberries is currently much higher than the price of imported blueberries. This is on the one hand because product quality is superior and fruit size is larger, and on the other hand because the peak production period of Yunnan blueberries has not yet arrived. The production volume is not large, while consumer demand is relatively high. All of these conditions have added to the high price of Yunnan blueberries.
Domestic blueberry production falls in the slack season and fills a gap in the blueberry market. The peak supply period of Chilean blueberries is March. The price was lower this year than it was in previous years. One small box of 125 grams cost around 9 yuan [1.41 USD] last year, but only 8 yuan [1.25 USD] this year. The price of Yunnan blueberries, however, increased by 8% in comparison with the same period last year.
Chilean blueberry supply is already in its final stage of this season. They will soon be off the market. The regular season when domestic blueberries enter the market normally falls in June. The main production areas are in Shandong and Hebei. Yunnan blueberries enter the market in April, which is precisely in between the supply peak of Chilean blueberries and domestic blueberries from Shandong and Hebei. Furthermore, in the last two years the supply season of Yunnan blueberries was extended. It seems that the same is true for this year. Yunnan blueberries will be on the market for more than one month.
