Cripps Pink, Golden and Braeburn significantly more expensive

South Tyrol: Wholesale prices for apples still rising

A look at the latest wholesale prices for April shows that prices are still very high year-on-year. For some varieties, April prices were again significantly higher. That's what the Bolzano economic research institute WIFO estimated in its monthly overview.

Prices for apple varieties Cripps Pink, Fuji, Braeburn, Kanzi, Red Delicious, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious went up; the Gala variety, however, was no longer recorded. The published prices are always gross prices, from which the costs of storage, transport, marketing etc. still have to be deducted in order to obtain an indication of the sales’ prices.

Significant increase compared to last year
The Cripps Pink, Golden and Braeburn varieties saw their prices go up in April, compared to the month before, in some cases significantly. It was the same with the other varieties -with the exception of Granny Smith. With the Cripps Pink, an average price of € 1.48/kg was seen in March, compared to € 1.24/kg in the same month of last year.

For Kanzi, the average was € 1.18/kg (April 2017: € 0.97/kg), € 1.11/kg for Fuji (April 2017: € 0.77/kg), Golden Delicious € 1.08/kg (2017: 0.47 €/kg), for Braeburn € 1.03/kg (2017: € 0.53/kg), for Granny Smith € 0.84/kg (2017: € 0.56/kg) and for Red Delicious € 0.83/kg (2017: € 0.53/kg).
