"Taiwan Fruit Traders: mainland China will not buy "independent Taiwan fruit"

Hong Kong-based China Critical reported that Xie Chenxun, CEO of Taiwan Taisen International Trading Co., Ltd., gave an interview with regard to the collapse of Taiwanese pineapple exports to mainland China. He stated that mainland traders have purchased Taiwanese pineapples with vigor in the last four or five years. The reason that this has ended is because mainland traders absolutely refuse to buy "independent Taiwan fruit".

Xie further stated that Taiwan sells approximately 450 thousand tons of pineapples per year, but when relations with mainland China are good, that volume can increase to 500-550 thousand tons. The increased volume is not followed by a drop in price because the demand from mainland traders also increases.

Now that mainland traders have gradually stopped coming to Taiwan, the supply greatly exceeds demand. In addition, pineapples matured early because temperatures increased, rain hindered sales, traders hoard pineapples in hope for better prices, and other fruits compete with pineapples on the market.
