"Creation of "Sustainability Award 2019"

LPR and Euro Pool System promote sustainable development initiatives

LPR-La Palette Rouge and Euro Pool System (both divisions of the Euro Pool group) have confirmed their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the 2018 retail trade congress held in Warsaw last month, and announced their active involvement in the creation of a new award in the field of the environment.

The award, to be presented for the first time in 2019, is being created in partnership with PwC, a world leader in the field of consulting, auditing and accounting, and BBM, the organizer of the retail trade congress. With the name "Sustainability Award 2019", the award will join the current list of five awards that are currently presented to the best companies in the retail sector in Poland in their respective categories.

The "Sustainability Award" will be awarded to the retailer who launches the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly solutions in Poland during 2018.

As Tiago Costa, National Director of LPR Poland, points out, environmental sustainability and the circular economy are not mere fashionable issues, but an economic reality. "The circular economy and the commitment to sustainable solutions is a real strategy for effective cooperation between retailers, producers of the large consumer sector, logistics operators and the supply chain as a whole. It is extremely important to limit our impact on the environment, namely through the generation of waste, excessive consumption of raw materials, greenhouse gas emissions and other issues related to transport (pollution, land traffic, noise , etc.) We are therefore pleased to participate in the "Sustainability Award", as this will be the first time in Poland that a prize is awarded to a retailer for the work developed to contribute to improving the world. Without a doubt, this initiative has also contributed to raise awareness about the importance of pursuing sustainability in the supply chain in Poland."

Aware of these problems, the Euro Pool group has developed services that involve optimised multimodal transport systems, collaborations with local suppliers, shorter transport routes, the development of service centres near distribution centres, etc. "We have developed a product and a future-proof system." The two divisions, LPR and EPS, have adopted a "circular economy" approach, and sustainability is at the core of our concerns. Therefore, we are convinced that more and more firms in the sector will adopt our Pool formula to reduce CO2 emissions, avoid the waste of food and create a better world for the next generation. We have set some goals and we are ready for the future," says Gerjo Scheringa, General Director of the Euro Pool group.

See you in 2019 to find out who the winner of the first "Sustainability Award" will be at the next Warsaw Retail Congress.
