Colombian fruits and vegetables in demand on international markets

The Minister of Agriculture, Juan Guillermo Zuluaga, said that the Colombian fruits, which are representing Colombia at the MacFrut Fair, were healthy, nutritious, and had an excellent flavor.

Colombia is this year's guest country at the MacFrut Fair. The head of the agricultural portfolio said that "the world demands fruits and vegetables that Colombia has the potential to sell to the whole world for their nutritional and health benefits, and exquisite flavor. The purpose of participating in the fair is to demonstrate that Colombia's offer is of great importance for the international market and we hope to strengthen it more and more by increasing fruit exports in a significant number."

In addition, the head of the agricultural portfolio said that the idea was to increase the national per capita consumption of fruits and vegetables. Colombians barely consume 90.5 kilos of fruits and vegetables per year, while the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends eating 146 kilos.

There will be 25 Colombian producers of pineapple, tropical fruits, avocado, mango, lemon tahiti, and gulupa, among other products at the fair, which will be attended by 39,000 spectators from around the world.

The Fair will be attended by companies and producers associations, which are participating in it thanks to the strategic alliance between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, ProColombia, the Rural Development Agency (ADR) and the CorporaciĆ³n Colombia Internacional (CCI), which has been leading the participation and accompaniment of different Colombian producers and entrepreneurs.
