Kasseler Wholesale starts partnership with Parisian wholesale market

‘We want to bring more products to our existing customers’

In today's trade, it is almost impossible to include new unknown varieties in one’s assortment. However, if you supply a diversified, partially upscale clientele, you must be able to have appropriate offers. That is the motto of wholesaler T. Meissner Frucht-Handels-GmbH, based in Kassel. While its customer base has been constantly expanding, more and more inquiries were coming in, asking for exclusive products.

Fresh, yellow products from the Parisian wholesale market

The wholesaler supplies fresh fruits and vegetables to, among others: nursing homes, canteen kitchens, C+C markets and wholesalers and retailers. “In recent years, however, various new customer groups have come up, such as high-quality supermarkets, specialized market traders and suppliers of upscale catering. As a result, we wanted to expand the product range and offer more products to our existing customers," explains signatory Tom Meissner.

Exclusive fruit vegetables are currently sourced in bulk via Paris

Partnership is championship
That's how the idea of a partnership slowly came into existence. A partnership with special contacts at the Rungis hypermarket in the French capital Paris, one of the largest in Europe, and thus a trading hub for experts from all over the world. For the last two weeks, this partnership has been a reality. Meissner: "You can get the goods directly from Paris, but the majority of our customers do not need the required volumes and do not have the flexibility to order fresh goods once or twice a week. We started a similar project a few years ago with Italian specialties. Via the wholesale market of the northern Italian city of Verona, we import monks beard and mini-artichokes, among other things, and we have now been able to establish regular sales.”

Magnificent, yellow tomatoes from French cultivation are already on offer by the T. Meissner Frucht-Handels-GmbH and also the popular Charentais melons will soon arrive on the Parisian wholesale market in Kassel. In addition, the wholesaler for the real gourmets still has a surprise. I expect chanterelles and mushrooms in the next few weeks. In addition, stone fruit is now fully on the rise: apricots, peaches and nectarines we already have, but this week, the first cherries from Italy are coming in as well. These are really class A goods!”

Delivery is the mainstay of the wholesale trade

Fresh supply in central Germany
The fresh-center Meissner is located in Kassel and is run by the Meissner family. The GmbH offers its customers all the products of the modern fresh trade with both German fruit and vegetables, as well as specialities from around the world. The wholesale company focuses mainly on delivery and supplies large consumers, supermarkets and restaurants within a radius of approximately 250 km.
