Overview European Potato Market week 17

UK: Plantations finally able to progress

Belgium
Fiwap/PCA market message:
Industrial variety: General price, 35 mm +, min 60 % 50 mm +, min 360 g/5 kg EPS, bulk, friable, selling price, excl. VAT, direct delivery:
Bintje : 2,00 to 3,00 €/a, depending on quality and destination; calm market (supply greater than, or equal to, demand). Sufficient supply to meet an almost limited demand from peelers;
Challenger: Stable market (supply equal to demand). Price around € 3.00/a. Internal stains remain a current problem. Overall demand remains steady, but varies widely among buyers;
Fontane : Around 6,00 €/a. Strong market, with industrial demand still very present.
Innovator : 6,00 to 6,50 €/a for immediate delivery, strong market. Little supply (progressive depletion of stocks).

Fontane transactions with delayed delivery were noticeable until the end of last week, between €7.00 and €8.50/a for May-June delivery, or €9.00 /a for July (with refrigeration). The export continues to release small volumes to various destinations in Southern Europe (including the Lady Claire to Italy) and the East.

Future market
EEX in Leipzig (€/a) Bintje, Agria and various related for conversion, 40 mm+, min 60 % 50 mm +:

Netherlands
Delay in buyers and prices on the industrial market last week. Average ratings remained virtually unchanged. Real transactions showed prices from 6.00 to 7.00 €/a in "classic" varieties (Fontane, Innovator, Ramos), and up to 9.50 €/a in Agria. The export concerns limited, but regular volumes to Eastern countries, on the basis of 6.50 - 7.50 €/a selling price per big bag, and for large fried sizes 10.00 to 12.00 €/a per order for Southern Europe. Plantations were able to start on a large scale in the East of the Netherlands, while the west has yet to wait here and there.

France
Strong and stable prices for the industry last week: increasingly complicated market for Bintje; better demand for Challenger; Fontane still a priority for factories; Innovator, Markies and Agria get the best prices in the range of € 6.00/a. For export and the domestic fresh market, the price ranges are widened according to the quality of the batches. Romania is present on the market (based on 7.00 €/a for basic quality). But the washable Agata reached 15,00 €/a for Southern Europe. As soon as the quality is a little less, we quickly drop to 10,00 €/a. Plantations have generally started mid or late past week in Hauts-de-France. They are more advanced in Champagne, and less advanced in Normandy.

Unwashed industrial potato, bulk, selling price, excl. VAT, North Seine, €/a, min – max (avg) (RNM):

Germany
On the fresh market, producer prices remained unchanged, or slightly went up: at April 17, prices were estimated to be 11.83 €/a (=) for firm pulp and 11.33 €/a (+ 0 , 7%) for soft pulp. In potatoes for the industry (fries), demand remains strong, Fontane trade is rising again, and Agria and Innovator are stable. In organic potatoes, producer prices always are around 48,00 €/a.

Early crops: over 90% of the early crops have been planted.
Main Harvest: Plantations were regularly interrupted by rains last week in Lower Saxony and Rhineland. In the Rhineland, depending on the area, about 40% was planted yesterday.

*you will have to deduct €1,00/a from these prices in their starting fields in the table above for sorting fees!

Great Britain
Average producer price (all markets) week 15: unavailable.
Plantations were finally able to progress last week, but some areas intended for early crops remain very late (two weeks minimum in Cornwall, up to five weeks in the Isle of Wight). Overall, the establishment of conservation varieties is three weeks late, both in the East and the West of England. Wholesale markets are responding with a better demand (in terms of amounts and price), in response to the fact that supply decreases along with field work. However, the industry remains largely supplied due to contracts.
