2018 China Lychee Summit Meeting

The 2018 China International Lychee Summit press conference and the festive opening of the lychee harvest season were held in Lingshui Li Autonomous County in Hainan on May 4th, 2018.

China is the world leader in surface area devoted to lychee production and in lychee production volumes. The overall surface area devoted to lychee production in China reached 547 thousand hectares in 2017. This equals 68.3% of the global surface area devoted to lychee production. China's annual lychee production volume is 2.3 million tons, which accounts for 65.7% of the global lychee production volume. The 2018 China International Lychee Summit Meeting will be held in the last week of June in Guangdong.

Lingshui is an early-season production area. Lingshui lychees have been exported in the past on privately chartered airplanes. Lychees are the most important characteristic fruit on Hainan. The surface area devoted to lychee production in Hainan is more than 20 thousand hectares. The current annual lychee production volume is estimated at 180-200 thousand tons. The main lychee variety is Feizi Xiao [Concubine Smile]. It accounts for 90% of production. This year will be an abundant year for lychees. Add to this their early arrival on the market, and the price prospects look relatively good.
