Mexico: Jalisco starts producing and exporting table grapes
The first crop of grapes grown in Jalisco yielded around 200,000 boxes. This harvest is part of a project, which started in 2017 and that is being carried out by the State Government and a Sonoran company dedicated to the production and marketing of fruits, to cultivate high quality grapes in Jalisco, stated the president of the Federation of Grape Producers of Mesa de Sonora, Marco Antonio Molina. "Last year we produced a little bit, but it was a bit experimental as it were. This year, Jalisco has already produced around 200,000 boxes for commercial use."
This project is being carried out in 500 hectares in the municipalities of Toliman and Tuxcacuesco. However, in this first stage of the project, only 130 hectares were cultivated.
The grape varieties being grown are the green and red seedless grapes, as well as Sweet Sapphire, and Cotton Candy varieties, which will be marketed in 24 countries around the world.
