Tough times for exotic product market

The exotic market is not going through its best moment, mostly due to a low demand for the products and the high prices set in the international markets. The cause of this could be the mismanagement of both exporting companies and importers.

This mismanagement causes the products to reach high prices that are far from their real value. Moreover, there is a growing absence of information about the true nutritional properties of these fruits, as well as some packing limitations. According to José Luis García Burgos, "new packing concepts could be implemented to achieve greater sales volumes with more competitive prices."



García Burgos belongs to the company Global Fruits Flowers, a multinational specialised in tropical fruit that works with affiliated producers in all Mexican states. Its MD2 pineapple production is carried out on about 8,000 hectares, but they also produce "bananas, exotic fruits and the world's best cocoa, with a unique flavour and aroma."



The company's range of exotic products includes guanabana, passion fruit, carambola, baby banana, guava, physalis or tamarillo. José Luís says that "our goal is to continue strengthening our position in the global market and offer our customers quality and good prices."



"We try to be leaders in the marketing of tropical and exotic products, since we have realised that the system's shortcomings make the products become more expensive, both for greengrocers and for the end consumer. We are going to try selling them better in all markets, offering better prices and larger volumes."



Global Fruits Flowers' products ate 60% Mexican and 40% from other Latin American countries, depending on the season. They work directly with producers and exporters, so that they can always guarantee excellent quality and good prices for their exports to various markets in Europe and the Middle East.
