Frutas AZ opens new cherry sorting plant to handle rising demand

While cherry trees are in full bloom in the Jerte Valley, Frutas AZ is preparing the launch of its new sorting and packaging plant in the area. This new facility, which has more than 2,000 m2 of work space, has been designed to help the firm handle the growing demand for cherries.



The construction work started at the end of the previous campaign. The plant will make it possible to improve the work volumes and will have new traceability systems to guarantee more efficient processes. It is multiplying the company's current capacity by three, allowing it to continue expanding in terms of production volumes and sales.



The new plant is also equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, with automatic calibrators that will greatly improve the handling of cherries, and which have a lower environmental impact. Moreover, its BRC, IFS and Global Gap certifications should also help give a boost to exports. In Spain, they sell mainly to large distribution chains and through its distribution platform in Mercamadrid, under its PICOCER brand.



Frutas AZ is a company based in Madrid which, in addition to selecting fresh fruits and vegetables from different parts of the world, has extensive experience in cultivation, with pears, apples, peaches and cherries as flagship products.
