Norfolk Radishes Get Underway in New Facility

With the first shoots of summer last week, G’s Growers opened their new washing and grading line at Feltwell Growers in Norfolk, the radish growing hub for G’s in the UK.

At the end of the 2017 UK season in October the bulldozers moved in and cleared the existing wash line and building structures.

Through the course of the winter, the team have raced to construct a new 980sq meter building to house 5 new lines to wash and grade the crop as it comes out of the black fen soil. Construction was completed in only 5½ months through what was one of the harshest winters that Norfolk has seen in recent years.

“Production of UK radish traditionally starts on St Georges Day, so given the cooler than average weather conditions through February and March we are pleased to have UK crop being trialled through the new line,” explains Scott Watson, GM G’s Feltwell Growers

Radish has been one of the fastest growing categories in UK salads and to keep up with this demand; G’s have continually invested in its radish business over the past 10 years to develop its growing, harvest techniques and packing operations. The wash and grading line was one of the final pieces in the jigsaw to modernise the G’s radish business and prime it for future category growth.

Through 2018 G’s will be supporting UK Radish through its ongoing Love Radish PR campaign www.loveradish.co.uk which encourages food influencers to think about this incredibly healthy and convenient crop in new and exciting ways.

G’s have a range of exciting radish based NPD due to launch through the course of the summer that should encourage shoppers to take a lot more interest in the category.
