Biological and integrated control are increasingly important, so much so that Bioline Agrosciences, a company specialising in the commercialisation of beneficial insects and mites, bumblebees and solutions for the integrated management of crops, has organised an Open Day.
Ambliseius californicus
"We wanted to organise this day to showcase the activity of beneficial insects in greenhouses as well as the effectiveness of beneficial insects," explained Federico Garcia, sales manager for the Mediterranean and Latin America.

"For the occasion, we released Amblyseius cucumeris (thrip predator), Amblyseius swirkii (whitefly and thrip predator) and Ambliseius californicus (red spider mite predator). Beneficial insects must be released at the beginning of the crop, so they can develop before the pathogen appears," explained Manuel Gomez, IPM Technical Specialist Bioline Agrosciences.
Visitors proved really curious and the staff at Bioline had the chance of spreading the culture of biotechnology applied to greenhouse cultivation. Around 150 producers attended as well as many agronomists.
Giuseppe Manera's company hosted the event and hasn't had to carry out any pesticide treatment unlike companies nearby, which had been attacked by parasites.
