Willem Dijk Junior:

“Import season started with produce from traditional family companies”

This week, the Spanish import season officially started in Enschede, the Netherlands. “We’re starting with seedless watermelons of our own brand Amador, and with fresh nispero from Frutas Antonio Sanchis. Both companies are family companies that have been around for decades. We’ve worked with Amador for 11 years now, and it’s our second year with Frutas Antonio Sanchis.

Entire families work for these two companies, and they carry the best products. These products are selected based on many criteria, of which quality and flavour are the most important. We just don’t have quality problems with these people,” says Willem Dijk Junior. “They are AA suppliers, and because of that they are very reliable in all aspects. These companies are traditional, and slightly smaller in size. They care about their products.”

“This week we received the first Spanish seedless watermelons from the Almeria region. Available sizes, 3/4/5, come in the well-known luxurious black box. Despite being the first seedless melons, they have a good red colour, and very flavourful. In coming weeks, Fashion, Crimson, yellow and piel de sapo melons will also be added.”

“This week we also received the nispero in traditional wooden crates. Sizes: GG in the large 6 kilos, and G/M in the large 8 kilos.”
