France: MedFEL opens Tuesday with 10th edition

France’s largest international event for the fruit and vegetable industry
celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and turns the spotlight on garlic, onions and shallots.

Organised by the Occitanie/Pyrénées‐Méditerranée Regional Council and the regional agency for economic development AD’OCC, MedFEL will take place from April 24 to 26, 2018 at the Perpignan Exhibition Centre.

This year Medfel expects 300 exhibitors and 6,500 visitors. The event acts both as a platform for international business within the industry and a showcase for the major trends in a fast‐changing sector. Over three days, industry members meet up to engage with each other and glean information about the sector’s performance and competitiveness. MedFEL offers a complete overview of French expertise serving the interests of the international fruit and vegetable industry, from production and logistics
services through to marketing.

MedFEL’s size allows it to remain people‐centred
Its 300 exhibitors meet the wide‐ranging needs of nearly 6,500 visitors: fruit and vegetables (targeting the fresh produce market or for processing), organic, seeds, agricultural equipment, technologies and services. MedFEL divides exhibitors into themed areas covering the entire industry: 60 organic fruit and vegetable firms; 50 technical suppliers for the 4th medFELtech – offering an effective tool for improving the performance of industry players; 50 transport and logistics providers.

BtoB is MedFEL’s hallmark
120 VIP buyers are recruited by the regional agency for economic development AD’OCC from around the world, many of them from Europe, along with delegations from Africa and a number of other countries. Among international buyers, many are interested in organic produce. French and
international multiple grocers also attend. The event generates 5,000 BtoB meetings.

Objectives
‐ To bring together the entire French proposition with supplies from the Mediterranean rim (Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco, etc.).

‐ To boost market shares for companies that attend medFEL to carry out substantive work and do business.

‐ To shed light on the economic challenges and innovations in the fruit and vegetable industry through a broad‐ranging programme of conferences.

The fruit and vegetable industry is faced with major upheavals: globalisation of trade, changes to distribution systems and consumer habits as well as climate incidents that impact a substantial section of production. MedFEL is committed to fostering debate and finding solutions. The programme can be viewed on medFEL’s website: www.medfel.com

Carole Delga, Chair of the Occitanie / Pyrénées‐Méditerranée Regional Council:
“Since it was created in 2009 by the Regional Council with support from AD’OCC, medFEL has over the years become a must‐attend event for players in the fruit and vegetable industry. Posting revenue in excess of €700 million with nearly 35,000 jobs, the fruit and vegetable industry plays a pivotal role in our region’s agriculture. Representing France’s leading producer of organic and quality and origin certified produce (SIQO), I was keen for Premium, Organic and SIQO produce to be showcased during the event. We want to turn the spotlight on the finest produce from our countryside and, of course, on the men and women whose day‐to‐day work helps feed us”.
