“Lots of mangoes on the European market”

The European mango market is going through a rough patch, as a result of high supply versus a declining demand. A French importer reports: "Competition from stone fruits and other summer fruits, such as strawberries and raspberries, is increasing. There are far too many mango exporters compared to the demand and we have lowered our import amount.”

“There’s a large quantity of Peruvian mangoes still on the market. African production is also starting up slowly, with mangoes coming in from Ivory Coast and Mali. Their production is very good this year, and I think supply will be greater than demand for quite a long time."

The importer only offers the Kent variety which, according to him, is the most requested variety on the European market. The company offers mangoes throughout the year, and imports them from different countries. "Our mangoes come from Africa, South America and Central America. Apart from Ivory Coast, Mali and Peru, we import mangoes from Mexico, Brazil and Santo Domingo as well.”
