Reusable sack for fruits and vegetables
Reusable 'Sackerl'
Measures for plastic reduction
SPAR and Interspar are contributing to the reduction of plastics with a variety of measures. As part of the Sustainability Agenda of the Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, SPAR and Interspar saved over 20 percent on fruit and vegetable bags last year. In all ranges of products attention is paid to resource-saving packaging. For example the packaging of the SPAR ‘enjoy sandwiches’ was converted from plastic to cardboard, saving 22 tons of plastics per year.
SPAR and Interspar have already tested alternatives to fruit and vegetable sacks in the past. In 2014, SPAR offered light organic sackcloths, some of which were made of bio-plastic. In 2016, customers were able to pack fruit and vegetables in paper bags. However, both variants proved to be impractical and brought no significant CO2 savings compared to conventional plastic. Only reusing Sackerl brings about real benefits for the environment.
