90% of China's white asparagus is exported

Commercial television station Pro7 in Germany recently broadcast a program that followed the "journey" of white asparagus from China to Germany. The program stated that China has 13 million hectares of asparagus plantations with an annual production volume of 4.55 million tons of white asparagus. 90% of that production volume is exported.

Germans enjoy asparagus. The vegetable is rich in vitamins and minerals. One of the reasons why China exports such a large volume of asparagus is that China has vast farmlands. In addition, Chinese do not like to eat asparagus, so almost all the production volume is transported abroad. In the program, an asparagus farmer stated that the white asparagus harvest takes place every year between early March and June and lasts approximately 60-70 days.
