Honduras wants to replicate Peruvian agriculture initiatives

The agricultural production initiatives of Peru were presented to the president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, as he is interested in replicating them in his country to benefit the less favored people.

In the framework of the Summit of the Americas, Hernandez met with the president of Sierra Exportadora, Alfonso Velasquez, to learn about the successful experiences that have increased production in the most vulnerable rural areas of Peru.

During the meeting, the Honduran leader spoke about the scope of the From the Field to Table Task Force, a program with which the Honduran government seeks to reactivate national production through initiatives that ensure the food reaches the table of each citizen at fair prices.

Hernandez invited Velasquez to visit Honduras to learn about the Honduran market and to establish alliances to add value to the production chain, according to a statement released by the government.

The head of Sierra Exportadora highlighted the potential of Honduras, its diversification capacity, and agreed to share the Peruvian experiences with the country, the statement added.

The idea is to organize the communities and promote the promotion of the association and the normalization of production as the pillars that sustain competitiveness in Honduras, said the Peruvian entrepreneur.

He also noted that they would promote productions at the municipal level, which would allow reaching the communities and involving them in business plans with the participation of the private sector to develop value chains.

"I am sure that this united force between Honduras and Peru for the benefit of the poor will have results in the short and medium term," Velasquez said.

According to the statement, Velazquez also said Honduras and Peru wanted to learn from each other's experience to improve the living conditions of their population.
