Besana International - 80 new hectares in Kazakhstan

Besana International has signed an important agreement regarding around 80 hectares of intensive crops, walnuts and almonds in favour of Kazakh agriculture with Caspian Food and, in particular, with a model company called "Silk Alley".

Pino Calcagni with his Kazakh partner, a leading farmer cultivating 700 hectares

The project has the purpose of extending Italian hazelnut cultivation in Kazakhstan with plants micro-propagated in Italian labs and state-of-the-art irrigation and fertigation solutions.

"We have 100 years of experience in the dried fruit sector, so we try to support innovative producers in Italy and all over the world. Over the past few years, we have initiated projects in Eastern Europe and central Asia. These lands were already cultivating and trading walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts in Ottoman times. Thanks to nurseries such as Vitroplant and Battistini Vivai, we have planted varieties that are suitable for the climate and needs of those areas," explains owner Pino Calcagni.

Calcagno stresses that there is a sort of protocol in place according to which, if the local or domestic market absorbs production at a good price, sales can be carried out directly, otherwise Besana collects the produce to process and sell it all over the world.

Besana International will attend Macfrut (Rimini, May 9th-11th 2018) with the purpose of meeting Italian and foreign partners interested in investing on modern dried fruit orchards (mainly hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds and pistachios) and dried fruit (plums, apricots, soft fruit).
