Argentina: Kiwi harvest season begins

The harvest season of the Hayward kiwifruit in the Mar de Plata region, Argentina, will begin at the end of April even though it has already begun in other regions. Producers in Mar de Plata will start the harvest later to guarantee the fruit has the optimum quality and the taste. The harvest season will last until October, which is the deadline for the conservation of kiwis in good conditions.

Ignacio RĂos, of Kiwi Maramet, said "this year, our company expects to increase production by 20% over the previous year, maintaining the quality that characterizes the kiwi of our region."

Maramet mainly exports its products to Spain and Italy, and although it exports only small volumes, the company plans to continue negotiating with new markets to continue its expansion in Europe and the rest of the world.

Currently, Maramet only produces and markets the Hayward kiwi variety. However, Rios said, "we are always analyzing the possibility of diversifying in other varieties. In addition, we are planning to create a premium brand for the specialization of our products."
