Chilean grapes and blueberries featured in kids cooking classes

Fruits from Chile and Anaheim, Calif.-based Northgate Gonzales Markets teamed up January thru March during the peak of the Chilean Summer Fruit season to teach kids how to eat healthy with grapes and blueberries.

Fruits from Chile sponsored 100 Miguelito’s Cocina Club Kids Cooking classes where young chefs prepared blueberry smoothies and candied grapes.

“The kids campaign which creates a fun atmosphere at store level, was promoted in Northgate’s weekly circulars, social media and in-store radio. Participants in the classes received a free apron, button pin, passport, certificate and Chilean color activity books” said Steve Hattendorf, Western region merchandiser for the San Carlos, Calif.-based Chilean Fresh Fruit Association.

"Blueberries and Grapes from Chile are a perfect tie-in with these type of retail initiatives because they are a healthy snack for kids, loaded with vitamin C and go great with kid-friendly recipes," Hattendorf said.

Chile is the largest grape and blueberry exporter in the world and offers the most extensive range of fruit in the Southern Hemisphere. Chile affords retailers a prime opportunity to continue fruit sales throughout winter into spring.
