Asparagus, carrots and wild carrots: occupying more than 50% of the acreage in Lower Saxony

In Lower Saxony 20,281 hectares of vegetables were cultivated last year. The largest area of this was reserved for asparagus, carrots and wild carrots and onions. Just the asparagus itself, whose season is already eagerly awaited by many consumers, brings it to 6,148 hectares: a third of the area. According to the Landvolk press service.

Onions, were cultivated on 2,637 hectares. Carrots and wild carrots grew on 2,005 hectares. For these three crops, the acreage was extended as it was for almost all other types of vegetables. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, Germany's vegetable growers have cultivated a total of 130,153 hectares. North Rhine-Westphalia leads with 27,043 hectares, followed by Lower Saxony with 20,281 hectares and the Rhineland-Palatinate with 19,566 hectares.

Compared to last year, the vegetable growers have expanded the acreage by 9,000 hectares The number of farms remained almost the same.
