Italy: Good cherry season expected in Bisceglie

Despite the recent frost that affected Puglia and other areas, it looks like it could be a good season for cherries in the Bisceglie area.

Early Lory variety.

Producer Sergio Salerno (in the photo below) talks about excellent quality and quantities. "It will all depend on the weather. If the rain returns in 20 days' time, as forecast, fruits may crack."

"I'm one of the lucky ones if I think what my colleagues are dealing with not far from here. The Ferrovia variety is also doing well. Harvesting should start around 15th-18th May 2018, weather permitting."

Ferrovia variety to be harvested in late May 2018.

According to Sergio, cherry volumes should be higher than last year. The producer owns 5 hectares of cherry orchards.
