Stinkbug infection

Russia bans fruit and vegetables from Abkhazia

From April 2, Russia has temporarily banned delivery of all fruit and vegetables from Abkhazia, as well as ready-made packaging and packaging material made of wood due to the full-scale spread of the brown marmorated stinkbug.

The decision was made by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance after monitoring of the spreading of the pest. The check was carried out March 24-25 on the whole territory of the republic, reported representatives of the surveillance organization.

In order to prevent the bug from spreading in Russia, the decision was made to limit the import of all Abkhazian fruit and vegetables into Russia.

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance have already established a temporary ban on produce from Abkhazia since March 12, because of the brown marmorated stink bug appearance in Russia. The body recommended refraining from importing seedlings, fruit (especially citrus) and vegetables from Abkhazia. The organization also warned that in case the dangerous produce is found and is impossible to return to the producer, it will be destroyed.
