Lezhong lychees could be ready for sale in a month. The Lezhong lychees enter the market approximately half a month before other lychees from the interior, which gives them a high "social status" on the market. It is estimated that the purchase price will reach 28 yuan [4.46 USD] per 0.5 kg. Lezhong lychees are produced in Ledong Li Autonomous County by the Kenrongguang Agricultural Company. The lychees generally ripen early in April. This production area delivers the earliest lychees on the Chinese market.
The early harvest fills a gap in the market. According to Liu Haifeng, the orchard manager, Lezhong lychee orchards cover 187 hectares. The production volume of last year was 1800 tons with a value of 30 million yuan [4.78 million USD].
