Dominican Republic: Mango exports amounted to US $20 million

Last year, the Dominican Republic's mango exports amounted to around 20 million dollars, said the president of the Mango Cluster of the province of Peravia, Rafael Leger.

According to Leger, in recent years this fruit has positioned itself in international markets, in the United States, Europe, and in the Asian continent.

He said that the sector had went from making US $ 7,096,983 in 2011 to US $19,375,059 last year.

He also stated that mango sector needed to restructure its production capacity to become the leading exporters of high quality mango in the Caribbean and Central America.

Leger said the sector required modern technological equipment to process and export mangoes, thus guaranteeing their competitiveness.
