Mexico is the second biggest producer of limes in the world

Mexico is the second biggest producer of limes in the world, with 2.4 million tons, only surpassed by India, which continues to rank first with more than 2.5 million tons.

Lime production in Mexico is concentrated mainly in the states of Veracruz and Michoacan, which account for 55 percent of the national production.

Lime stands out among the main agricultural products that Mexico exports and represents an important economic income; in 2015 this product's exports generated close to 375 million dollars. The importance of this crop is that it can be harvested 10 to 16 times a year.

Efforts in Sinaloa
Given the importance of this product's exports, Sinaloa has been working to diversify its productive culture in recent years and to venture into these new crop alternatives that are promising for producers.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the State Government stated that the crop began to show its importance in Sinaloa in 2013 and that by 2016 the state already had established 1,497 hectares, 792 of which were in the stage of vegetative development and 635 were already being harvested.

According to the state's latest production report, Sinaloa produced 4,657 tons of lemon worth 21.3 million pesos, as the average price at which this product was marketed was 4,564 pesos per ton.
