Pineapple sales at least double

Self-service pineapple peeler goes USA

The Piñabar is an automatic pineapple peeler that peels a pineapple within 20 seconds. “It’s truly a self-service in-store experience,” says Michel van Keeken of Dutch Food Technology. After peeling, the machine puts the peeled and cored pineapple conveniently in a bucket for the customer to present at checkout.

Piñabar at Whole Foods Market

Available in California and soon Atlanta
The Piñabar was developed by Dutch Food Technology (DFT) in the Netherlands and is now available worldwide. Initially, DFT expanded into Germany, France and Spain with retailers like Edeka, REWE, Conad, K-Supermarket, Kaufland, Carrefour and Walmart purchasing the Piñabar directly. In addition, Dutch Food Technology has been working together with pineapple suppliers from different countries who placed the Piñabar in even more stores. “In the US, Chestnut Hill Farms initially introduced the Piñabar for us,” said van Keeken. “Now, we are working directly with Whole Foods Market.” If you are in Los Angeles, pay a visit to the Whole Foods Market store on 760 S. Sepulveda Blvd in El Segundo, CA. In addition, Piñabars will be making their way into the Atlanta area soon.

“The US offers huge opportunities as consumers are willing to pay for convenience,” van Keeken shared. “Consumer experience plays an increasingly important role and the Piñabar fits this picture perfectly. In addition, we feel the country’s infrastructure as well as the presence of large food retail chains result in demand for the Piñabar.”

Sales at least double
Stores that carry a Piñabar see a dramatic increase of pineapple sales. “Usually, sales increase anywhere between 200 and 400 percent,” says van Keeken. “We can almost guarantee sales to double. In some unique situations, pineapple sales did go up as much as 1,000 percent.”
