Mohamed Shabaan, Garlico Company:

“Strong demand for Egyptian Valencia oranges”

According to Mohamed Shabaan, from the Egyptian Garlico Company, there is a huge demand for Valencia Oranges. This started in January and will last until the 1st of May. “Especially the first class oranges are popular.” All oranges exported by Garlico Company have been produced in Egypt. Mohamed: “We work together with many different partners, such as local farmers and packing houses”.

Apart from the Valancia Oranges the company commercialises lemons, Murcotts, grapefruits, onions and garlic. Mohamed: “Our biggest export markets are China, which imports big quantities of first class products, Arab countries, Bangladesh, India and Malaysia. In Europe we export mainly to Russia.”

Mohamed underlines that the competition from other countries is not too strong. “This year the demand for Egyptian products was higher than the demand for Spanish, Turkish and South-African oranges. Spanish and Moroccan products do not even affect our markets, because our quality, prices and packaging are better. Still, competition increases depending on the season.”

Mohamed describes Egyptian citrus as “a journey into health that has a long shelflife. Besides, it’s very suitable to make juices. Our products are certified Global Gap, British Retail Consortium(BRC), OHSAS 180001, ISO 90001, ISO 22000 and Sedex.”
