Robbert Leisink back in berry business
“Year-round soft fruit from our own production, thanks to Soloberry”
Robbert Leisink joined British soft fruit production company Soloberry as of 1 March. Soloberry was the first company that imported blueberries to the UK, and was also one of the pioneers among the foreign players who started production in Southern Spain. “We’re working hard to have large volumes available year-round from our own production as of next year.”
Soloberry has built a name for itself with the production of, among other crops, Adelita raspberries, but the blueberry production has also increased considerably over the years. “At the end of next year we’ll have 500 hectares of production of Early Blue blueberries in Morocco,” Robbert says. “Besides, we have our own production in countries such as Lithuania and Romania, but also in South America to guarantee year-round availability.”
“We have the entire soft fruit range at our disposal. We have raspberries, strawberries and blueberries from our own production, and we cooperate with a blackberry grower who grows for us. Soloberry has also had collaborations with Dutch growers for years, although we could use some expansions in the greenhouse strawberry season for the winter period,” Robbert concludes.
