Ibrahim Medini, FIPA Madrid:

“Attract more foreign investment to theTunisian agro-food industry”

As part of its promotional strategy to attract more foreign direct investment, as well as promote partnerships in innovative projects with high added value in the agro-food industry, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA- Tunisia) organised the Tunisian participation in the 22nd edition of the Salon Alimentaria 2018, in collaboration with the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency (APIA). FIPA-Tunisia represents Tunisia with a National Pavilion of 135m², themed: “New Tunisia , New Economic Vision.”

Along with over 12 innovative Tunisian companies, renowned in the sector of agro-food industries, Tunisian businessmen will be present as well. The director of FIPA in Madrid, Mr Ibrahim Medini, says: "They are Tunisian companies, operating in the agro-food industries sector. They have innovative activities, and work on local Tunisian products and “Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée” (AOC; pro-tected designations of origin) such as dates, olive oil, Harissa, Djebba figs, and prickly pears. This participation is a unique and a privileged opportunity for networking and meet-ups between Tunisian operators, and their counterparts in other countries seeking new opportunities for partnerships and investments."

An example of a successful project is the “Pampat Tunsie Project”. Ibrahim says: "This project brings together several companies to work on the improvement of some value chains of Tunisian products, such as Harissa, Djebba figs, and prickly pears from Kasserine. This project focuses on improving productivity and quality, developing the products of small, rural producers, and introducing them to international markets. This project is also working on quality labels, such as the 'Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée', the 'Food Quality Label Tunisia', and the 'Organic Label'."

Considered to be one of the 3 largest international trade shows in the agri-food sector, "Alimentaria" attracts more than 150,000 trade visitors of several nationalities, and brings together more than 4,500 exhibitors, on a total surface area of 100,000 m². The fair will take place in Barcelona, from April 16 to April 19, 2018.
