France: 15% increase in Saint-Pol-de-Léon Sica's turnover

The Saint-Pol-de-Léon Sica's turnover in 2017 reached €205 million, up 1.5%. However the cooperative explains that this figure hides disparities in certain crops making it hard to say whether it was a good year. Vegetables saw a 2% increase in turnover compared to 2016, reaching €170 million.

The cooperative offers 140 different products with almost 8,000 references, of which 30 are common products such as cauliflowers and tomatoes. The cauliflower sector represents 28% of vegetable turnover, but suffered from a delay in production which had a bad influence on prices. Marc Kerangueven, President of the cooperative, explains that cauliflower consumption is decreasing but they are trying to rejuvenate sales through products such as cauliflower flour.

2017 saw a 25% increase in organic vegetable production which now represents 5% of vegetable turnover. Mr Kerangueven has ensured that his priority is to "stand up for producers income" and insists on the necessity to reduce the number of collecting stations from 20 to 2 as the logistical cost is too high. The Sica employs about 120 people and has almost 700 farms and 900 producer members.
