Suspicious package in tomato tin leads to police involvement

The Kassel police moved out on Monday evening, after a woman announced that she had found a suspicious package in a tin of tomatoes. The 59-year-old woman found a bit of sand and a small roll of cardboard when she opened the tin, which was taped down with kitchen paper and some tape.

After use of a sniffer dog, it could be determined that the package did not contain narcotics. A quick check revealed a cash sum of 40 euros. Not really a money cache for criminal purposes.

The police remained in the dark and even further questioning of the lady did not result in any helpfull information. She did not know how and when this tin had landed in her pantry. But suddenly her husband thought it might be a preserve from a gift basket he had received the year before, for his birthday. Some inquiries within his circle of friends confirmed this and so the husband now could receive a belated birthday present.
