"Price of Hebei Yanshan Chinese chestnuts continues to increase"

"The main production areas for Chinese chestnuts are located in the northern part of Hebei province, the mid-eastern parts of Shandong, and Huanggang City in Hubei. The production season of Chinese chestnuts in Hebei begins under regular weather conditions in the first week of September and finishes in the middle of October." This is according to Mr. Yue Haipeng of Qinhuangdao Yanshan Chestnut Co. Ltd.

"The Chinese chestnut production base in Yanshan is relatively small in comparison with other production areas, but the chestnuts are regular. On average there are 120-140 chestnuts per kg, or 80 large chestnuts per kg. The color is a dark red and the chestnut is easy to peel. The thin inner skin does not stick to the chestnut. The Chinese chestnut production area in Yanshan has grown since 2002. The main reasons for this development are as follows: first, the government implemented policies that support developments in the agricultural industry. Second, the soil requirements of Chinese chestnut trees are relatively simple. In many places that are unsuitable for the plantation of other agricultural products it is easy to plant Chinese chestnut trees."

"This company owns plantations in Qinhuangdao, Qianxi, and Zunhua, in Hebei. The surface areas of these plantations are 180, 120, and 133 hectares respectively. All plantations managed as cooperations and are certified organic plantations according to Japanese standards. In addition, a part of our Chinese chestnut harvest comes from private farms. We sell our products through traditional retail channels, but also cooperate with large e-commerce brands. Our sweet Chinese chestnut Benevolence and Big Smile products as well as our quick-frozen Chinese chestnut Benevolence and Big Smile products are predominantly sold in specialized stores, convenience stores and large scale supermarkets in first and second tier cities as well as in overseas markets all under our own registered brands 'Yanshan Bright Pearl' and 'Heavenly Ocean'."

"Exports currently account for about 50% of our business. Export destinations include Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and the USA. We predominantly sell wholesale packages, but complement this with gift boxes and gift wrapped packages. The price of Chinese chestnuts has been relatively high in recent years, so farmers have been planting Chinese chestnut with vigor. According to our estimate, the future price will continue to rise as more and more retail channels develop."
